How we build timber fences
Every timber fence starts with the posts. We set treated posts to a proper depth for the ground on your section, brace corners and gate openings, and run strainer lines so the finished fence stays straight. Rails go on level, palings are spaced evenly, and capping and boxing finish the top neatly where you want it.
Canterbury weather is the real test. Nor'westers, winter frosts and summer sun all move timber around, so we allow for it — fixings that hold, gaps that let boards breathe, and timber treated for outdoor New Zealand conditions. The result is a fence that weathers evenly instead of warping in the first year.

Care and lifespan
A timber fence rewards basic care. Keep soil and mulch off the bottom of the palings, wash off built-up grime now and then, and re-stain or oil every few years to slow greying. Getting started
Start by walking your own boundary and noting what bothers you — the lean, the gaps, the neighbour's side, where water pools after rain. Photos from each end of the run help us quote accurately before the visit. On site we check post condition with a spade, confirm the legal boundary line is understood, and talk heights and styles. Most residential timber fences take one to three days on site depending on length and access, and we leave cut-offs and old materials cleared rather than stacked behind the shed.
